The £89.2 million of investment made by Dorset County Council has modernised road conditions for businesses keen to benefit from being based in the region. £16m has also been spent on traffic improvement schemes in and around Weymouth – the effects are highly noticeable with journey times significantly reduced.

IT infrastructure has similarly benefited. £10 million of Government funding has recently been secured to provide 90 per

cent of Dorset businesses and homes with superfast broadband speeds. BT Openreach is driving the project and Weymouth is one of the 114 UK communities that will benefit from the £2.5 billion roll-out of fibre-broadband across the United Kingdom. The project will see internet speeds reach between 40 and 100 Mbps.

There’s no denying the Olympic Games will push Weymouth into the international limelight and that tourism and industry will play a key part keeping it there. However, without modern business facilities much of the benefits for South Dorset would be left unrealised.
